A trekking expedition
I am Nakul, an engineering student and specialize in electronics and communication. At the time of this trekking expedition I was in my first year. My semester end exams had just finished. Me and my friends had planned beforehand to go for trekking or river rafting whichever would be feasible after the examinations. So, the time had come to enjoy and we decided to go for trekking at Aravali hills in Rajasthan, India. I heard about the two day trekking programs which my friends had gone before. All of them said that it was a good getaway and an adventure outing. So I was very excited to go there and was eagerly waiting for it.
Finally the day we had to go came. It was a chilly Monday morning with a little bit of sun showing up behind the clouds. We left for the railway station at six in the morning. Then we took a train to Jaipur from where we had to take a bus for the hilly area of the Aravalis. Finally we reached their by two in the afternoon.
There were hills all around and I got excited by the scenic beauty around. We joined a group of other tourists who had come for trekking to. Then the people who were organizing the trekking divide us in groups of fifty. An instructor was also assigned to each group for helping out the people. As the trekking are was not so steep, we didn’t need any special equipment except a strong pair of shoes with good grip.
Finally our group started to trek. Our instructor, Sachin guided us to the starting trek which was a one and a half kilometers of trek on rocky soil. We started to walk. It was a stretch between two hills. The view in the front was great. There was a hill in front full of greenery which we had to climb. It was not actually rock climbing, but a king of steep walking. We reached the bottom of the hill. There was a curvy path which was made do to the previous trekkers who had come here. We started walking on this kind of a climb up the hill. We were instructed to hold the tree trunks or kneel down in slippery areas. The surface was of loose soil with small and big rocks all around. As we were moving we had to climb a big rock to continue our journey. Sachin just climbed over it and was helping everyone to cross this rock. My friend Rajesh approached the rock. He stepped on a smaller rock and held Sachin’s hand so that he could pull Rajesh up. When he was half way through Sachin lost grip and Rajesh fell down on his back as he had no support. He hurt his hands and his neck in this incident. I immediately rushed to him and helped him get up.
It was quite tragic that he had hurt himself on the first day of the trip. He was given medical attention and returned to the base. Then we all cautiously completed the days trek and returned that night only. Sachin apologized to Rajesh for his mistake when he met Rajesh next morning. Then we returned back home that day only as Rajesh couldn’t continue further. All in all it was an informative expedition. Rajesh was lucky to escape with minor bruises. But his enthusiasm even after getting hurt made us promise that we would return next year
